Hayes graduates basic training

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Paul D. Hayes Jr. graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Greenville shooting suspect taken into custody

The Madison County Sheriff's Office says they were called to S&J Deli Tuesday afternoon about a man who had been shot. While the victim was being treated, deputies learned the shooting happened at a home on N. W. Haffye Drive in Greenville and that the victim drove himself to the S & J Deli to get help.

City to name new manager Tuesday

The council had been set to make the hiring Thursday, but its regular meeting was canceled because of the snow storm that socked the area in Wednesday. The three are current interim City Manager Kenneth Howard; former Madison, Fla., City Manager Timothy Bennett and former Hogansville, Ga., City Manager James Austin Woods.

FKCC tries again to get new name

Florida Keys Community College will once again seek to have state lawmakers approve a name change so it can drop "community" from its official title. FKCC wants to rebrand itself The College of the Florida Keys since it now offers a bachelor's degree in supervision and management.

2 more Florida colleges may lose 'community' name

Florida community colleges would continue to be a vanishing breed under a proposal that will be considered during the legislative session that starts next week. A bill awaiting a hearing in the House Education Committee would remove the "community" label from Florida Keys Community College and North Florida Community College in Madison.
